Canadian Gypsum Powder

Natural Calcium & Sulfur Amendment for Soil Structure, Drainage & Nutrient Balance

Revitalize your soil with high-quality gypsum powder produced in Canada, a clean, natural source of calcium and sulfur designed to improve soil structure, correct imbalances, and support long-term plant health. Unlike lime, gypsum won’t raise soil pH, making it ideal for a wide range of garden, lawn, and agricultural applications.

What is Gypsum?

Gypsum is the common name for calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO₄·2H₂O)—a naturally occurring mineral that delivers both soluble calcium and sulfur to the soil. These nutrients are critical for plant growth and soil structure, but what sets gypsum apart is its physical and chemical action in the root zone:

  • Soil Structure Repair: Gypsum breaks up compacted or heavy clay soils by displacing sodium and separating tightly bound particles. This increases pore space, allowing more oxygen, water, and roots to penetrate deeply.

  • Non-Acidifying: Unlike lime, gypsum provides calcium without altering soil pH—perfect for plants that require neutral or slightly acidic conditions.

  • Enhanced Root Development: Improved porosity leads to stronger root systems and better nutrient uptake.

  • Sulfur Supplementation: Sulfur is vital for amino acid and protein synthesis in plants, and gypsum delivers it in a readily available form.

Key Benefits 🌱

  • Loosens compacted, clay-heavy soils without tilling

  • Increases root penetration and water infiltration

  • Reduces surface crusting and erosion

  • Replaces excess sodium in sodic soils (sodium flush effect)

  • Enhances microbial activity by improving air and water movement

  • Supplies calcium for strong cell walls and structural growth

  • Delivers sulfur for chlorophyll production and enzyme activation

Safe & Clean Amendment

This gypsum powder is finely ground for rapid solubility and effective soil action. Produced from natural, high-purity mineral deposits in Canada, it contains no added chemicals, contaminants, or synthetic fillers—safe for organic gardening, regenerative farms, and home landscapes

How to Use for Houseplants & Indoor Gardening

Potting Mix Additive
Before planting or repotting, mix gypsum powder directly into your soil blend at a rate of:

  • 1 tablespoon per gallon of potting soil, or

  • ½ cup per cubic foot of soil

This helps build calcium reserves and keeps the mix loose and well-aerated over time.

Top-Dressing Established Houseplants
Sprinkle a thin layer (around 1–2 teaspoons for a 6–8″ pot) over the soil surface. Water thoroughly to carry the gypsum into the root zone. Repeat every 3–4 months if using filtered water or organic fertilizers.

Water Flush for Salt-Stressed Plants
If you’re noticing crusty white buildup on the soil or signs of fertilizer burn (browning leaf tips), gypsum can help leach out excess sodium and salts.

  • Add 1–2 teaspoons of gypsum powder per quart of water. Stir and water deeply, allowing excess to drain out the bottom. Repeat monthly if needed.

Why It Works Indoors 🧠

Unlike many amendments, gypsum doesn’t disrupt soil pH, making it incredibly versatile for the diverse needs of indoor plants. Whether you’re caring for ferns, Monsteras, palms, pothos, or peace lilies, the added calcium and improved soil aeration can mean fewer root issues, stronger growth, and more resilient plants overall.

Used regularly, gypsum becomes a quiet but powerful tool in maintaining a balanced, breathable root environment—especially important in containers where soils can quickly degrade without ongoing care.
